Because of the war in the Middle East, since 9 March this year the Croatian Government has been capping maximum fuel prices. The Government said it would monitor oil price movements on the world market.
Prices will change every 7 days (taking effect at midnight on Tuesdays). These prices are valid until 23:59h on 02 November 2026.
Prices may vary depending on oil companies’ pricing policies and whether the petrol station is on a motorway. The median/average fuel price is shown below. Data sources: Croatian Government (Vlada RH), Europa.eu, petrol stations.

Fuel prices Croatia – frequently asked questions
Since 9 September 2026, fuel prices in Croatia have changed every 14 days (on Tuesdays). The Croatian Government decided to cap maximum fuel prices because of the war in the Middle East. The cap applies to petrol, diesel, blue diesel and LPG in cylinders and tanks, but not to premium fuels or higher-octane petrol.
New prices take effect at midnight every other Tuesday. The maximum price of petroleum products is set at a Government session the day before (Monday).
According to a statement by the Croatian Competition Agency (Agencija za zaštitu tržišnog natjecanja), retail fuel prices are primarily shaped by factors that motor fuel retailers generally can’t influence – the purchase price of fuel, excise duties and tax.
As a rule, you’ll pay more for fuel on motorways.
The price of petroleum products in Croatia is based on product prices on the Mediterranean exchange. Unlike fuel prices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where each petrol station sets its own policy, in Croatia the maximum retail fuel price is generally regulated by the Croatian Government. The fuel price is made up of several elements: the base price of fuel, VAT, excise duties and oil companies’ margins.
There are currently more than 700 petrol stations in Croatia, 396 of which are owned by INA.
