Fuel prices North Macedonia – frequently asked questions
Fuel prices in North Macedonia don’t change on fixed dates – usually a few times a month. When there are larger market fluctuations, they can change four or five times a month. Although there sometimes seems to be a weekly rhythm, this isn’t strictly prescribed.
Price changes mainly depend on global benchmark oil prices and the US dollar exchange rate against the Macedonian denar. Of course, prices can also change for other reasons, such as major global conflicts.
According to the latest data, there are currently more than 370 petrol stations operating in North Macedonia.
More than 15 oil companies operate in North Macedonia, the best known being Makpetrol, OKTA, Lukoil, Pucko Petrol, Phoenix Oil Energy, Coral Fuels (Shell), Bashino-Gas, Metalopromet, Krater, Dizel Plus and Euro Petrol. These companies cover retail, wholesale and fuel distribution across the country.
The government doesn’t regulate them directly; this is done by the Energy, Water Services and Municipal Waste Management Regulatory Commission (RKE). The state regulates the fuel market indirectly through the RKE, but doesn’t fix prices – they are maximum permitted prices, and distributors can offer lower ones.
