Fuel prices Hungary – frequently asked questions
Fuel prices change twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays. This practice has been in place for several years, since the Hungarian petroleum association and fuel retailers agreed on this schedule for price changes.
The factors that affect the price are: the global price of crude oil, refining costs and margins, taxes and levies (excise duty, VAT, strategic reserve fees), transport costs and retailers’ margins.
Fuel prices in neighbouring countries, such as fuel prices in Croatia and fuel prices in Serbia, follow the same logic as in Hungary. So you’ll always find cheaper fuel on Hungarian motorways than at petrol stations in towns and smaller places.
According to this year’s data, there are more than 2,000 petrol stations open in Hungary.
Some of the oil companies operating in Hungary are: MOL, Shell, OMV, Eni/Agip, Lukoil, AVIA, Orlen, M.Petrol, Esso, Tesco, Auchan, PRIMAGAZ, LPG Station and Gulf.
