Fuel prices Montenegro – frequently asked questions
As a rule, fuel prices change every 14 days, when the Government and the Ministry of Energy and Mining issue a decision on new maximum prices for petroleum products. However, since the war in the Middle East began at the end of February 2026, the Ministry has decided to change fuel prices every 7 days, on Tuesdays.
Fuel prices in Montenegro, as in neighbouring countries such as Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Slovenia, depend on several factors, such as the price of a barrel of crude oil, competitors’ prices, transport costs and economic conditions. According to the Ministry, the maximum price of petroleum products in Montenegro is set: ‘Saglasno odredbama Uredbe o načinu i visini elemenata na osnovu kojih se formiraju maksimalne cijene naftnih derivata („Službeni list CG“ ,broj 23/2021)’.
Retail fuel prices in Montenegro are based on the following factors: the import price of oil, taxes, transport costs and retailers’ (petrol stations’) margins. Each of these factors makes up a larger or smaller share of the fuel price.
According to data from 2020, there are around 120 operating petrol stations in Montenegro.
Lukoil, EKO, INA, Zaton Petrol, Hifa Oil, Klik Oil, Europetrol, IK Real Petrol, Zeta Petrol, VN Petrol, Alba Petrol, Shell, M Petrol, Avio Petrol and S&M Petrol are just some of the companies selling petroleum products.
